Duties

Help
  • Perform comprehensive lower-extremity examinations and rapidly differentiate localized podiatric conditions from manifestations of systemic disease, referring patients for appropriate medical treatment as necessary.
  • Diagnose and treat non-systemic foot and ankle conditions, including sprains, fractures, benign tumors and cysts, burns, lacerations, puncture wounds, bursitis, plantar fasciitis, hammertoe and bunion deformities, and hyperkeratotic lesions.
  • Consult with professional staff in the treatment of localized manifestations of systemic disease or conditions complicating a foot disorder and select, prescribe, and apply topical, oral, and injectable medical therapies.
  • Perform assigned advanced surgeries in the operating room under local or general anesthesia where procedures may involve the forefoot, midfoot, rearfoot, ankle, and associated distal lower-extremity structures and may require extended operative time.
  • Perform routine surgeries involving the digits and metatarsals requiring less than one hour of surgical time and outpatient surgical procedures, including ingrown nail procedures and foreign body removal.
  • Design, fabricate, and evaluate custom orthotic/prosthetic devices; and examine, diagnose, and prescribe appropriate footwear, inspecting devices for effectiveness and adherence to patient need.
  • Perform administrative functions associated with patient care coordination, coding, documentation, and local practice support.
  • Provide care for foot and ankle imbalances, weaknesses, and deformities using manipulation, strapping, bracing, casting, and Physical Therapy referrals.

  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 45 pounds.

Basic Requirement for Podiatrist (Surgery-Fore/Rearfoot & Advanced Rearfoot/Ankle):

Degree:
Successful completion of a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from a school of podiatric medicine accredited by the American Podiatric Medical Association's Council on Podiatric Medical Education (APMA) at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Licensure: Successful completion of the National Board of Pediatric Medical Examiners (NBPME) or the American Podiatric Medical Licensing Examination (APLME) and a current, active and unrestricted license to practice podiatric medicine from a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. (Note: You must attach a copy of your license.)

Experience: Possession of at least one full year of professional podiatry experience (equivalent to the GP-12 grade level or above) which includes diagnosing and treating foot and ankle conditions; and performing surgical procedures involving the lower extremities.

Residency Program: Successful completion of an accredited residency program in Podiatry.
