Duties

Help
  • Check tray-line for accuracy and compliance with diet order and food/beveragetemperatures during tray assembly, and takes appropriate action to correct tray errors in a timelymanner.
  • Maintain kitchen and work areas in clean and orderly condition by sweeping and mopping floors, washing and polishing shelves, tables, sinks, refrigerators, etc.
  • Transport loaded food carts from kitchen to wards, and collects carts with trays from wards after meals.
  • Consistently applies the approved food handling and sanitation procedures.
  • Prepare a variety of hot and cold foods such as sandwiches, salads, desserts, and beverages.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Food Service Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common food service and food preparation tasks. I can transport food products and heavy objects, as well as load food carts trays. I am able to follow directions of menus and maximize material utilization to reduce waste. I am able to utilize safe food handling procedures and maintain a clean work environment. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS. Work involves the daily lifting and moving of items weighing in excess
    of 50 pounds. Must be able to exercise physical dexterity and have a reach of a least 72 inches. Must
    be able to stand for a long period of time on concrete floors. Incumbent must have the capacity to
    read item labels and instructions at a distance of 30 inches. Must have the agility to verify the food
    items on a tray line moving at a speed of 2 1/2 seconds per foot and able to place the proper item in
    the appropriate position on the tray. The work involves prolonged periods of standing and walking and
    frequent stooping, bending, reaching, pulling and pushing. Regularly lifts and moves objects weighing
    up to forty pounds with some occasional lifting of heavier items with assistance.
    Regularly pushes food carts weighing 45 pounds.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS. Work performed in a noisy kitchen. Subject is exposed to cold of
    refrigerators and danger of falling on wet, slippery floors. Personnel deliver and pick up food carts In
    the patient area. Exposed to infection from soiled trays. Areas are lighted and air conditioned. The
    area is generally well lighted however is considered hot as is typical of kitchen areas in which ovens
    and steam constantly produce heat and humidity. The area is frequently noisy with exposure to burns,
    cuts, bruises, scrapes or broken bones resulting from falls or slips on wet surface, hot liquids, foods
    or cooking surfaces, equipment or utensils. The employee follows prescribed safety procedures and
    is required to wear safety shoes. Regularly pushes food carts weighing 45 pounds.

May include other immunizations that may be required for this position/for a position you may fill as an emergency essential alternate. Failure to take immunizations may lead to your removal from position or separation from Federal service. Position is considered essential to support DoDs mobilization and wartime mission during periods of increasing tension or mobilization. Position is considered emergency essential because (1) No qualified and immediate replacement exists; (2) having it vacant would/impair effective operation of essential military support system/adversely impact combat mission of deployed forces. Failure to remain in your position may result in separation for the efficiency of the Federal Service, (Ch 75 Title 5 USC; FPM Ch. 752).
