About the Position: About the Position: Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas. RRAD is near the corners of 4 states - Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. Duties

Help
  • Prepare interior and exterior structural surfaces for the application of protective coatings.
  • Clean spray paint equipment with approved chemical solvents
  • Tint base coating materials to match standard color codes.
  • Select thinning agents to adjust paint consistency for temperature variations.
  • Follow written technical directives for the application of hazardous coating materials.
  • Construct protective barriers or containment masking around work areas.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion not to exceed (NTE) 1 year by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Position may be made permanent without further competition.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Painter without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties which include sanding interior surfaces for painting; applying basic primers to standard engineering assets; and cleaning spray paint nozzles with chemical solvents. I can interpret written technical directives for paint application; set up protective drop cloths around immediate work areas; and apply finish coats using pneumatic spray guns. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort:
  • Work requires continuous movement of hands and arms, reaching, bending, and lifting materials up to 10 pounds. The painter may be required to coat surfaces in cramped and hard to reach places. The painter may be required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Occasionally, may handle materials and equipment that weigh 40 pounds or more.
Working Conditions:
  • The work is done inside a paint booth or under an open air roof, with dirt, spray, and fumes usually present. Incumbent must be able to wear protective clothing and equipment, i.e. respirators, goggles, and clothing. The work is of a dirty nature and requires working for long periods of time in tiring positions, such as standing, bending, etc. Is exposed to cuts and bruises when operating paint equipment or tools in cleaning surfaces and also exposed to danger of inhaling harmful paint fumes.

Education

Some Federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
