Summary
You will serve as a Mechanical Engineering Technician within NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY

You will be responsible for the daily activities of the machine shop including daily and preventative maintenance on all machines in the shop.
You will develop advanced programs using FeatureCAM software and operate CNC machines and other machine tools and shop equipment to fabricate and modify precision parts.
You will use precision measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, graduated scales, gauges blocks, gage pins, dividers, and angle indicators as required for the fabrication, assembly, and inspection of mechanical components and spacecraft.
You will direct machinists and technicians on the daily activities of the machine shop including daily and preventative maintenance on all machines in the shop.
Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band (NR-02) or GS equivalent (GS- 5/8) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Designing required fixtures required to modify and repair existing parts; 2) Interpreting mechanical drawings produced in accordance with regulations; and 3) Analyzing component designs and suggests modifications to improve functionality, performance, and to meet program cost and schedule goals.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band (NR-03) or GS equivalent (GS- 9/10) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Designing and developing inspection methods and fixtures; 2) Developing cost and schedule estimates for work completed in a machine shop; 3) Modifying standard practices and adapting specialized equipment to solve a variety of spacecraft assembly and fabrication problems; and 4) Reporting hardware anomalies, proposing solutions, and performing corrective actions during the course of assembly and integration.

The incumbent is responsible for providing training and safety instructions on operating the machines to junior engineers and technicians.
