This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. This announcement is a Direct Hire solicitation. Category rating, veteran's preference, and traditional rating and ranking of applicants do NOT apply for this vacancy. This is a developmental position to the target grade of GS-06.

Duties

Help
  • Serve as an Emergency Services Dispatcher for the Directorate of Emergency Services providing around the clock 24/7 services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls, and dispatches appropriate personnel and equipment.
  • Maintain an accurate status of emergency response equipment and personnel to assure prompt and accurate response.
  • Responsible for the control of all emergency response patrols (fire, police, and ambulance) to include, but not limited to, the dispatching of, rendering assistance/guidance to, and the supplying of critical information to patrol units.
  • Prepare police blotters and other associated police and emergency response reports and performs filing and other administrative duties as required.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position is subject to Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel up to 10%.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to an alternate work schedule, which may require an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends and holidays, 12-hour shifts during the tour of duty).
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.

  • This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain within 6 months of employment the State Crime Information Center or National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Certification.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Determining the nature of the emergency calls; 2) Dispatching the emergency calls to the appropriate personnel such as law enforcement, fire, or emergency medical services; 3) Utilizing office automation systems for computer aided dispatching or monitoring system activity for suspicious behavior. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
