Help

As a Data Scientist, you will:

  • Help to anticipate future needs and to develop policy and guidance used to make or influence major policy, strategy, or regulatory decisions having significant impact upon the agency's mission.
  • Perform analysis and provide expertise in developing and verifying hypothesis/concepts/theories/proposals in a variety of technical and analytical areas using the latest computational systems, platforms, algorithms and tools; sophisticated and advanced quantitative methods and techniques (including Artificial Intelligence); and large data sets.
  • Play a key role in broad data research projects of major policy importance, difficulty, and complexity, directed toward significant problems relating to goals and mission of the Bureau of Fiscal Service.
  • Influence and collaborate with stakeholders to build partnerships for sharing and improving open data.

  • All newly appointed employees to the competitive (or excepted) service are subject to a probationary (or trial) period. During this time, your performance, conduct, and suitability for continued employment will be evaluated. You will not automatically convert to permanent status at the end of the probationary (or trial) period.   • Must successfully complete a background investigation. Periodic reinvestigation is required no later than five years after selection and at least every succeeding five years.
  • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
  • Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.

  • his position requires that the successful candidate undergo personnel vetting, which includes a background investigation and enrollment upon onboarding into "Continuous Vetting." Enrollment in Continuous Vetting will result in automated record checks being conducted throughout one's employment with Treasury. The successful candidate will also be enrolled into FBI's Rap Back service, which will allow Treasury to receive notification from the FBI of criminal matters (e.g., arrests, charges, convictions) involving enrolled individuals in near real-time. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year and indicate number of hours worked per week on your résumé.

Specialized experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
- Applying advanced statistical, algorithmic, or machine learning techniques to analyze large and complex datasets and produce insights that inform program decisions; AND
- Designing, developing, and validating data models, automated processes, or analytical tools that detect anomalies, identify trends, or enhance program integrity; AND
- Communicating technical findings to nontechnical audiences through clear visualizations, reports, and briefings that support executives, program teams, or cross agency partners.

Education

Education Requirements:

Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.

Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
