Help

Major duties include:

  • Works alongside staff and sets the pace for production, quality, and compliance with safety and infection control procedures.
  • Demonstrates proper work methods for linen handling, sterile area procedures, equipment operation, and safe work practices.
  • Provides technical guidance, answers questions on policies, PPE, task procedures, and linen handling protocols.
  • Ensures proper collection, containment, and transportation of soiled linen from clinical users to the laundry plant following infection control and PPE requirements.
  • Manages rotation, accountability, and tracking of patient clothing and valuables, including safe access procedures.
  • Initiates work orders for needed repairs and maintains liaison with vendor technicians and contractors supporting chemical injection systems and automation platforms.
  • Coordinates preventive maintenance scheduling, reports performance deficiencies, and monitors equipment usage.
  • Loads and unloads linen carts using hydraulic lifts and secures cargo safely.
  • Addresses operational issues such as linen shortages, delivery disruptions, equipment malfunctions, and process deviations.
  • Oversees uniform distribution, scrub operations, and the Scrub X automated dispensing system, including data updates, user troubleshooting, and training.
  • Provides data collection and summary information to assist management in planning, procurement, and budgeting.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. (work hours may be further discussed during the interview)

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT - Driver's License: Must possess a valid U.S. state-issued driver's license. NOTE: We cannot accept photographs, therefore; please do not submit a copy of your license with your application package. If an interview is requested, you will be required to provide a copy of your current, valid state driver's license.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT - Related Experience: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: You will be asked to participate in a pre-employment evaluation as part of the pre-employment process for this position. Questions about physical demands or environmental factors may be addressed at the time of evaluation or examination. Work requires daily walking, standing, bending, reaching, stooping, pushing carts, pulling loads, and lifting items up to 50 pounds. Some administrative work is sedentary.

Work Conditions: Work is performed in hot, humid environments with strong odors, noise, moving machinery, and potential exposure to infectious materials and chemicals. PPE is mandatory. Work involves confined spaces and mechanical hazards requiring strict adherence to safety procedures.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
