Duties

Help

As a Financial Litigation Technician in the United States Attorney's Office (USAO), work assignments include:

- Acting as the subject matter expert in the processes and procedures related to complex asset identification and debt collection activities.
- Investigating complicated financial assets and transactions and providing comparative analyses of information furnished by debtors.
- Interpreting and enforcing judgments in criminal cases and performing all functions to collect amounts imposed as a result of the prosecution of criminal cases.
- Obtaining and analyzing financial information on debtors to determine their present and future potential ability to pay.
- Drafting and/or preparing letters, forms and reports necessary to initiate the collection of debts.
- Making determinations as to the appropriateness and cost effectiveness of pursuing the obligation either by suit or proceedings subsequent to the entry of judgment to enforce collection.
- Preparing payment plans which involve reviewing financial asset information the debtor has submitted.
- Returning deficient claims explaining those deficiencies determined through the claim referral analysis; and
- Entering and tracking financial data in automated systems and spreadsheets.


Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Financial Litigation Technician, at GS-0303-8, you must meet the qualification requirements listed below.

GS-8: To be eligible at the GS-8 level, you must meet the specialized experience.

Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in federal service.

Specialized experience is defined as serving as the subject matter expert in the processes and procedures related to complex asset identification and debt collection activities. Examples of specialized experience include- initiating contact with debtors concerning payment of their obligations, their ability to pay, and negotiating written payment schedules to assure successful collection of debts; reviewing debtor financial asset information to prepare payment plans; reconciling payment transactions with records and documents and identifying and resolving inconsistencies; and participating in decisions concerning post judgment remedies such as garnishments.

Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy. To be well-qualified, you must satisfy all qualification requirements for the vacant position and receive a score of 85 or better on established ranking criteria. If it is determined that you meet minimum qualification requirements and the technical or alternative assessment, your application will then be placed in one of three categories based on the assessment results: Best Qualified, Highly Qualified, or Qualified.
