Duties

Help
  • You will have extensive practical knowledge of the electronics, electrical, hydraulic, hoisting, mechanical and wire rope fields, with experience in maintenance.
  • You will have knowledge of construction contract management as it specifically applies to elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters and other vertical transportation equipment.
  • You will have the ability to locate and accurately analyze abnormal conditions or problems whether actual or potential such as inadequate safety interlocks, improper design, poor performance or ASME / ANSI Safety Code violations.
  • You will have knowledge of basic mathematics including algebra and geometry to perform engineering calculations relative to vertical transportation equipment inspections.
  • You will have the ability to provide technical information and advice to those who design, test, produce, procure, supply, operate, repair, or dispose of VTE equipment.
  • You will generate detailed inspection reports assessing equipment condition, safety code compliance deficiencies noted, and makes recommendations for modifications to improve the safety, efficiency of use, and life span of the equipment.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You must attain a letter of competency and VTE certification authority from the NAVFACENGCOM Vertical Transportation Equipment Program manager.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain in good standing a government issued Travel Card for official Government travel purposes.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-09) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

1.) Extensive practical knowledge of the electronics, electrical, hydraulic, hoisting, mechanical and wire rope fields, with experience in maintenance and construction contract management as it specifically applies to elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters and other vertical transportation equipment.
2.) Ability to locate and accurately analyze abnormal conditions or problems whether actual or potential such as inadequate safety interlocks, improper design, poor performance or ASME / ANSI Safety Code violations.
3.) Knowledge of basic mathematics including algebra and geometry to perform engineering calculations relative to vertical transportation equipment inspections.

Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

or

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

or

LL.M., if related
