Our Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army's mission. They provide necessary skills that are crucial to supporting our military operations. The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

Kilauea Military Camp (KMC) is located in the heart of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Big Island, Hawaii. KMC is at an elevation of 4,000 feet within walking distance from Kilauea Volcano, the world's most active volcano.

HISTORY OF KILAUEA MILITARY CAMP (KMC)
From that modest beginning, KMC has grown and evolved into a beautiful getaway resort that continues to support all branches of the military as well as Guard and Reserve components.

Historical visits to the Island of Hawaii by U.S. navy ships and visits to the volcano area by Army and Navy units occurred during the 1840's, 1890's and early 1900's. Local leaders turned this interest into the creation of a rest camp for military personnel. By 1916, a rest camp had been constructed on or near the site where Kilauea Military Camp now stands.
