The Weight Management Program Coordinator has full responsibility for administering all aspects of the local initiative to support the health and well-being of the Veteran population and the employees who care for them. This involves leading an interdisciplinary team who is responsible for all levels of the facility MOVE! program, both for Veterans and employees.

The Weight Management Program Coordinator has the ultimate responsibility for planning the local weight management program based on the national guidance provided in Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Weight Management Program Directive. The expectation is that the Weight Management Program Coordinator will address weight issues for veterans and staff at all levels of the MOVE! program throughout the healthcare system.

These duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Clinical manager must be able to perform all duties of subordinate clinical dietitians and health technicians in Nutrition and Food Services.
• Functions as a professional and technical advisor to clinical staff, other allied healthcare professionals, program directors and managers throughout the healthcare system, including MOVE! weight management program staff.
• Develops and implements nutrition therapy programs.
• Ensures that materials utilized in patient education are based on current literature, practice, and research.
• Keeps abreast of current scientific, technological, theoretical and treatment modality changes, as well as management theory, relating to the provision of nutrition care.

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year).
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• English Language Proficiency: Dietitians must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d).
• Education: Supervisory Dieticians mustpossess a Master's degree from a regionally accredited university or college.
• Registration/Certification: All applicants must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) the credentialing branch of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics formerly known as the American Dietetic Association (ADA). Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Registered Dietitian (RD) - Must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) the credentialing branch of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics formerly known as the American Dietetic Association (ADA).

GS-12 DETERMINATION FOR SUPERVISORY DIETITIAN (CLINICAL NUTRITION) MANAGER:

• Experience. Completion of one (1) year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11).
• Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSA's:
  • Knowledge of accrediting requirements in clinical nutrition to assess staff compliance and implement performance improvements.
  • Skill as a nutrition expert to provide technical guidance, direction and staff development.
  • Skill in Evidence-Based Nutrition Practice Guidelines to develop, implement and coordinate best practices.
  • Skill in establishing goals and objectives to coordinate activities, evaluate accomplishments and solve problems.
  • Ability to supervise subordinate staff (i.e., plan, organize, delegate, direct, control and review activities and performance).
  • Ability to analyze data in order to recommend allocation of resources???????

Assignments. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity (difficulty), and range of variety, and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. A clinical nutrition manager serves as a supervisory dietitian, clinical nutrition expert, and consultant with primary responsibility for professional management support of clinical nutrition program activities. The clinical nutrition manager integrates clinical functions with other sections of NFS, other services and units within the medical center, hospital and community based clinics, and the local community. The individual assesses, plans, and evaluates the clinical nutrition program to ensure proper coordination between the delivery of clinical nutrition services and the overall delivery of health care. The clinical nutrition manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with internal and external regulatory authorities.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, although some light physical effort may be required. There may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items including training paperwork or manuals, or small equipment, such as: laptop computers, mobile LCD projectors; or traveling. Work often involves talking for long periods of time and incumbent may be susceptible to eyestrain from working long hours on the computer.
