- Shop 72 Rigger Helper
Position Description - Obtaining, installing, removing, storing, and maintaining basic rigging equipment (e.g., chain hoists, slings, wire ropes, shackles, beam clamps, rollers, etc.) used in positioning, lifting, and moving heavy loads, and the conducting of weight handling tests. Places chaffing gear around easily damaged parts of a load or equipment. Clears crane passageways of any obstacles and warns nearby personnel. Performs the more routine type duties such as crane walking, signaling the crane operator regarding obstructions on railway tracks, and directing personnel away from areas made hazardous by crane operations. Secures and lashes heavy loads to truck trailers. Fabrication, inspection, testing, and certification of rigging equipment. Splices fiber, synthetic, or wire ropes.
- Shop 98 Heavy Mobile Equipment Helper
Position Description - Maintenance and/or repairs by removing, adjusting or replacing defective and/or worn parts or components. Overhaul, fabrication, modification, measuring/verification, troubleshooting, testing, replacement or adjustment of parts and equipment. Position also entails basic minor structural preservation. Performance of work will be on various types of weight handling equipment including Cranes; portal, mobile, floater, bridge, jib, monorail, wall and Equipment; forklifts, chainfalls, Heavy Lift Transports (HLT), generators, and other lifting and handling and support equipment.
This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
