Licensed Veterinary Technician, Certified Veterinary Technician, Registered Veterinary Technician or Equivalent Licensure is preferred.

Duties

Help
  • Administer medication via the proper method to equine.
  • Alert a veterinarian to situations or conditions that could endanger equine or humans.
  • Monitor equine behavior, condition, document symptoms, consult veterinarian.
  • Provide written communication to leadership regarding medical condition of each working equine.
  • Communicate organization's strategic plan regarding an equine herd.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Pre-employment physical and annual physicals while in the position.
  • This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. The employee is required to pass urinalysis testing as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter
  • Temporary Duty (TDY) travel is required up to 10% of the time for travel to other locations for training, mission support, pre-purchase exams, and other activities for readiness.
  • Must possess a valid State-issued driver’s license. Must obtain and maintain a valid Government driver’s license in order to operate Government vehicles to drive to various sites.
  • May be required to work other than normal duty hours which may include weekends, holidays, and/or on-call duty hours.
  • Use of protective clothing, safety devices and equipment required.
  • Position may require employee to work under adverse environmental conditions.
  • Position identified as Key and Mission Essential under the provisions of Army Regulation 690-11, Mobilization Planning and Management (See 'Additional Information' section for more details).

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-8 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) Direct work with equine on a farm or ranch. 2) provide veterinary technical support to the equine veterinarians; 3) maintaining equine medical records; AND 4) Performing equine handling to ensure standard care.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08)

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
