Help

Major Duties includes:

  • Provides leadership and direction to Inpatient Operations within Health Administration Service.
  • Reviews the Supervisor report on the Gains and Losses report for accuracy.
  • Follows standard audit protocols and reports results as required
  • Assure functioning of the Kiosks and ICB software scanner.
  • Ensure procedures to protect sensitive information under the provision of the Privacy Act are followed.
  • Set performance standards and evaluate supervisors.
  • Ensure supervisors monitor all demographic information captured on each patient admitted.
  • Analyze work flow and problems to establish operational procedures efficiency
  • Conducts special studies for identifying opportunities to improve customer service and process quality
  • Works closely with clinical staff to assure record documentation is adequate
  • Plan and implement systematic reviews of consults, access, admissions, data validation of workload data, insurance and billing data.
  • Initiate actions on disciplinary matters, awards, labor relations, approval of leave and work schedules.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of programs towards mission and goals of the organization.
  • Communicate and advise providers, residents and interns in VA regulations, policies and procedures on patient care medical administration matters.
  • Manages and leads the programs for Ward Administration, Enrollment & Eligibility, AODs, Data management and training, and data validation function.
  • Analyzing data for patterns and trends, ability to supervise and train.
  • Coordinates follow up items with other Section Chiefs in HAS, Nursing and Clinical Service on admissions.
  • Develops policies and procedures and procedures for the smooth operation of administrative functions of data validation of workload data, insurance and billing data and use of standardized tools by all people at the facility.
Work Schedule: 7:30am - 4:00pm or 8:00am -4:30pm. Work schedule subject to change based on agency needs.

  • Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, but requires some walking, bending, stooping and carrying of light objects such as: manuals, documents, etc. Concentration and sustained performance under prolonged stress is required because of the time factors involved in completion of work assignments within deadlines.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/11/2026.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-11 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: comprehensive knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations, policies, guidelines and procedures; experience in the field of patient administration, both inpatient and outpatient, medical records and related fields of medical administration; varied functions of computer spreadsheets, database computer applications, etc., to produce and maintain a whole variety of documents; teaches, trains and orients other staff to data validation methods and monitoring systems. analyze and validates reports of data, workload and funding, etc. .
