The Cincinnati VA Medical Center (CVAMC) is a two-division campus located in Cincinnati, OH and Fort Thomas, KY serving 15 counties in Southwest OH, Northern Kentucky, and Southeast Indiana with 6 Community Based Outpatient Clinics located in Bellevue, KY; Florence, KY; Lawrenceburg, IN; Hamilton, OH; Clermont County, OH, and Georgetown, OH. The CVAMC also supports two off main campus locations in the Cincinnati area via an Eye Center and Mental Health Outreach Community Division.

Duties of the position include but are not limited to:

  • You will function as the coordinator and point of contact for the Environment of Care and accreditation policies and activities developed at the health care facility.
  • You will be working with all levels of staff across all programs within the facility, including top level management, systems redesign teams, and front-line staff in performance improvement and accreditation compliance.
  • You will be responsible for monitoring activities to ensure work is accomplished satisfactorily and ensuring adequate supplies are on hand for employees to perform the assigned tasks.
  • You will investigate and validate all customer complaints and coordinates with supervisors to correct complaints regarding sanitation deficiencies.
  • You will oversee and facilitate Environment of Care program for accreditation with various groups (Joint Commission, CARF) throughout the entire medical center.
  • You will ensure that quality improvement initiatives are complete, that all technical requirements are met, and all implementation requirements are accurately identified.
  • You will identify trending and repeat issues in the Environment of Care program.
  • You will advise/support leadership in publicizing and promoting environment of care improvement successes and activities.
  • You will inspect or survey workplace, processes, products, policies, and other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health.
  • You will make complex decisions based on a full assessment of the varying requirements of different hospital departments.

Work Schedule: 12:00pm - 9:00pm, possible rotating days. Final work schedule will be determined once a selection is made.

  • Physical Requirements: The work is a mixture of sedentary and mobile efforts, although there may be long periods of walking or standing while performing environmental rounds, and exposure to noise related to housekeeping. The incumbent may carry light loads of papers, books, or reports that do not require special physical demands. The work is usually performed in an office setting. However, the Incumbent may be subjected to dust, lint, harsh chemicals, noise and heat, etc. while performing environmental rounds. The incumbent is required to travel to all the Cincinnati VAMC sites 35% in the performance of the duty.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/11/2026.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-9. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-9 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: ability to apply analytical and evaluative methods to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of environmental management programs, skill in collecting and analyzing data to prepare comprehensive reports, ability to conduct thorough quality control inspections and ensuring deficiencies are corrected, ability to track and trend issues, identify training needs, and understand organizational workflows to analyze complex functions and work processes, knowledge of statutes, regulations and licensing and permitting requirements related to environmental and textile care programs, understanding of data systems to determine program needs and ensure regulatory compliance, and ability to administer a comprehensive bacteriological containment program for exterior hospital surfaces and understand the varying aseptic requirements across different areas of a medical facility. OR,
  • Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. OR,
  • Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of some specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 grade level but less than one year, and have some graduate level education but less than one year. The computed percentage of the requirements that are met, and the total is at least 100% of the requirement for the GS-11 grade level.
Preferred experience but not required: Environmental Management Services experience.
