About the Position: Serves as Materials Examiner and Identifier, independently performing the full range of duties required to examine, identify, classify, accept, store, issue, reject, and dispose of the most complex categories of materials and equipment.

Duties

Help
  • Examine and identify complex categories of materials and equipment to classify, accept, reject, or dispose of highly specialized items required for depot-level maintenance of weapon systems.
  • Uncrate receipts and compare visual and dimensional characteristics of items to complex specifications, contract drawings, schematics, and commercial parts books to verify positive identification.
  • Use standard precision measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and multimeters to establish dimensional characteristics of items and detect improper assembly or potential equipment malfunctions.
  • Perform re-identification and reclassification of items, make corresponding changes to manual and automated records, and prepare discrepancy reports for item managers and quality control.
  • Store, consolidate, issue, and retrieve hazardous, sensitive, or classified items and use automated systems to select stock, track receipts, and manage storage locations.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver license.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid forklift operator's license.
  • Must complete a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45lbs and over in the regular performance of duties.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Materials Examiner & Identifier ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Materials Examiner and Identifier tasks. I can uncrate receipts, verify the identity, quantity, and functional condition of incoming materials, utilize manual records and automated systems to store and retrieve standard stock items, and operate material handling equipment such as forklifts. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Incumbent regularly performs moderate to heavy lifting 45 pounds or more when moving items
    by hand or with dolly. Incumbent typically works on hard surfaces. Constant walking and standing on hard surfaces for prolonged periods is required. The work requires bending, stooping, and pushing/pulling heavy items along conveyor lines (e.g., to manually push pallets onto dollies).
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and out. Inside typical receiving and storage areas, fans and heaters moderate (but do not eliminate) seasonal extremes of temperature. In some instances, there may be no moderation at all. Incumbent may also work on adjacent lots where seasonal extremes are not moderated, or are even exaggerated (i.e., inside vans). Risk of shifting and/or falling loads is present (i.e., when material is being pulled from or placed into pallet racks). Other hazards include working around MHE and other moving vehicles. Incumbent is regularly exposed to nose, dirt, fumes, and vibrations. Incumbent is subject to abrasions, cuts, and punctures from banding, staples, splintered pallet and crates, etc. Safety shoes are always required. Ear plugs
    and/or gloves will be worn depending on the task at hand. Some material which incumbent processes are hazardous and may require additional PPE.
