As a IT SPECIALIST (Senior Security Engineer), GS-2210-14, your typical work assignments may include:

  • Serves as an IT Specialist who will apply security engineering industry best practices, methods, principles and techniques to current and future DHS Intelligence Enterprise (IE) Information Technology (IT) networks, systems and applications with knowledge in Zero Trust, Artificial Intelligence, and Cloud Security engineering.
  • Serve as an advisor to the Cybersecurity leadership on security and risk-management support and recommendation to support mission and communicate security risk to relevant stakeholders. Ability to provide senior level presentations, briefs, and executive level reports.
  • Provide/support of security requirements enforcement of multi-cloud environments to include but not limited to AWS, AZURE, Google, Oracle, etc. Provide Subject Matter Expertise in maturing the Cybersecurity Program Zero Trust Architecture, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Language (AI/ML), and Cloud Security Engineering posture. Assist with applying broad knowledge/experience for cybersecurity tools and platforms across cloud, endpoint, identity, and network security domains to support collaborative engagement with SOC, ICAM, and Network/cloud engineers.
  • Collaborate with on-premises and cloud engineers to ensure cybersecurity is built into the networks and cloud applications and support the development/maturation of Security automation through Continuous Integration/Continuous Development (CI/CD) to build efficiencies in the cybersecurity testing procedures. Ability to automate security tasks to enhance efficiency in threat detection.

Specialized Experience:
To qualify for the GS-14 you must possess the specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service, or equivalent public or private sector experience, in applying new technical practices to cybersecurity operations where precedents do not exist; assessing programs to determine where improvements in efficiencies and operations could be made; planning and implementing new operational cybersecurity programs; and providing managerial/administrative/technical leadership to the functions of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).   • Knowledge of the laws, policies, and regulations of the Information Security/Cybersecurity field such as ICD 503, FISMA Act 2014, NIST SP 800-53, CNSSI 1253, and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
  • Knowledge of Cloud Architecture, Cloud Infrastructure, Cloud Security engineering concepts.
  • Knowledge of security engineering industry best practices, methods, principles, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) - DevSecOps techniques.
  • Knowledge of Zero Trust, Artificial Intelligence, and Cloud Security engineering practices.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in using various cybersecurity techniques, methods, and procedures for assessing the security posture of systems, networks, and data under the authority of the CIO office.
