The incumbent serves as the senior HVAC first-line supervisor on the day shift. The incumbent is the technical overseer of the vital HVAC system and is relied upon to operate, maintain, regulate, facilitate, repair, and solve problems that arise on the shift. The incumbent is responsible for the smooth running of the HVAC system in all its many aspects and facets in all of the areas that the system covers including the many areas where priceless and delicate art treasures are present.
Duties for this position include:
Assists in developing quality standards for work accomplishments. Reviews and inspects completed staff contract work. Is responsible for resolving problems and taking the appropriate corrective action for staffing and contractor work. Coordinates work operations as needed with the designated Assistant Operations Manager and appropriate supervisors of other departments.
Ensures that work operations within the department are accomplished effectively and efficiently and that corrective measures are taken to accomplish work assignments in respective areas.
Supports an effective safety program including safety procedures, measures and precautions to insure that subordinate leaders promote and implement the safety program with employees in all work practices. Insures that employees follow approved safety practices including, but not limited to safe lifting and bending practices in order to avoid injury.
Assigns work to individuals and provides appropriate technical direction in accomplishing difficult maintenance, repair, and installations. Incumbent observes work in progress as appropriate to anticipate and resolve problems which occur.
Skilled in the use of hand tools of the trade (wrenches, hand drills, cutters, sprayers, pressure washers, etc.), use of instruments for taking temperature, humidity, and pressure readings, and filling out inspection logs required for reporting purposes. This position requires advanced knowledge of the operation of HVAC and mechanical equipment and systems and the skill and ability to determine if any equipment or systems malfunction exists.

Qualifications
Specialized Experience Statement: Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the WG-09 level in the Federal service or private sector,: leading or supervising teams; working with various HVAC systems in various types of environments such as residential, light commercial, heavy commercial, and industrial; and working hands-on with various types of voltages and amperage.
Merit promotion applicants must meet the time-in-grade requirement as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. One year at the WG-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the WG-10 level.
