Duties

Help
  • Fabricates sheet metal components using shop mathematics.
  • Erects prefabricated steel components using structural framework to secure buildings.
  • Repairs commercial metal doors by replacing worn hardware to ensure correct alignment.
  • Welds structural steel components by adhering to shop specifications.
  • Bend and form metal parts into desired shapes with hand and power tools and various equipment.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and there after annual physicals.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Forklift Operator's driver's license (30,000 lbs.) within 6 months of employment in position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Man-lift Operator's license (up to 60 ft.) within 6 months of employment in position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate motor vehicles.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Sheet Metal Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. Must possess the ability to perform common duties which include duties including the fabrication, assembly, and installation of diverse products from blueprints, cutting standard materials, reading work orders, and fastening parts using hand tools. I can cut, form, and weld various metals using hand and power tools. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Works from ladders, scaffolding, rooftops and platforms, in tiring and uncomfortable positions, or where parts or assemblies are in hard-to-reach places. Stands, stoops, bends, kneels, and climbs. Lifts items weighing up to 60 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works both inside, in well heated, lighted, and ventilated areas, and outside in varied weather, hot, cold and wet. Exposed to dirt, dust, grease, fumes, and noise and asbestos, and the possibility of cuts, burns, bruises, scrapes, electrical shock, and falls from ladders, scaffolds, lifting equipment, rooftops, and etc. Wears protective clothing and equipment when required.
