Duties

Help
  • You will assist management in formulating and preparing safety program policy statements, standards, guides, and similar materials applicable to the organization.
  • You will use an approved safety management system for maintaining workload documentation of safety services provided.
  • You will present oral presentations to program managers, safety representative, and contractors on occupational safety and health policies, guidelines, and implementation.
  • You will advise management on their legal responsibility to provide a safe and healthful worksite for employees.
  • You will analyze work tasks to determine existing or potentially hazardous situations.
  • You will compose documents (e.g., instructions, notices, letters, special reports) to facilitate the implementation of safety programs required by federal laws or higher echelon requirements and direction.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position is considered Key/Non-Combat Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support of the expeditionary requirements in other than combat or combat support situations.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

Qualifications

GS-11:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
1) Analyzing data on work operations, mishaps, and safety practices to prepare reports of findings that propose corrective measures for unsafe conditions and hazardous work practices;
2) Investigating mishaps, hazard reports, and unsafe or unhealthful working conditions to protect personnel and property;
3) Advising personnel of safety and occupational health measures to control or eliminate hazardous operating processes; and
4) Conducting safety and occupational health inspections and surveys to evaluate effectiveness of unit safety program.

GS-09:
I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector
1) Inspecting the work environment and identifying hazardous operational condition;
2) Investigating accidents and identifying the cause;
3) Preparing reports of inspection findings and accident investigations (e.g. witness statements, description of property damage, extent of injuries and contributing elements of mishaps and hazardous conditions occurring in the work environment).
