Duties

Help
  • Troubleshoots, maintains, repairs, replaces, and/or modifies complex electronic control and indicating systems
  • Numerically Controlled (NC) equipment, Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) equipment, electronic components/parts, and a variety of electronic test equipment associated with Production Machinery/Equipment
  • Work assignments include a variety of Production Machinery/Equipment, overhead cranes, remote automated industrial electronic control systems and/or PLC equipment, variable frequency drives (VFD) on fan supply and exhaust systems, and conveyors
  • Services, troubleshoots, repairs, and provides expertise on the industrial electronic control systems, subsystems, and components of industrial electronic control systems and/or programmable logic controller (PLC) in various buildings and locations.
  • Services, repairs, and provides expertise on the electronic systems, subsystems, and components of automatic storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) in various buildings and locations
  • Incumbent performs maintenance/repair work on industrial machines that are modified for specific functions (non-standard) with no established instructions or procedures for repair.
  • This position is located within Industrial Operations and Production Directorate, Manufacturing Division, Surface Finishing Department.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electronics Industrial Control Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision without more than normal supervision which includes: (1) Maintain, test and repair various types of electronically controlled industrial equipment and/or machinery; (2) Experience with circuits and basic logic circuits to power, timing and motion controls; and; (3) Use of electrical and electronic block diagrams, wiring diagrams and/or schematics. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required to push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crawl, kneel, bend and work in cramped positions over and under machinery of all types for sustained periods of time.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Incumbent performs work inside areas that are adequately lighted, ventilated, and heated. Floor and deck surfaces are sometimes uneven, oily, and slippery. They are frequently, exposed to moving objects and vibration from machines. In shop areas, exposed to injury from moving machinery, falls from heights over 20 feet, deep pit areas that require environmental testing before working, danger of burns, electric shocks, bruises, cuts, shop noises, skin irritants and toxic environments. Uses moderate physical effort, fine finger dexterity and close visual attention. Uses personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses, hard hats, gloves, steel toe shoes and safety harnesses & self-rescue equipment for compliance with fall protection requirements.
