Creates a positive atmosphere and culture within the Retail Division that reflects the pride, professionalism, sense of accomplishment, fulfillment, collaborative engagement, well-being, and the whole-hearted customer focus of its employees.  Builds a customer-centric workforce that incorporates the core values of the Marine Corps Exchange (MCX) in all facets of the business.  Handles all business practices, issues, and concerns with the customer in mind and instills an ¿I Can Do That¿ mentality in all associates.

Monitors and reviews performance of several departments located within the Main Exchange.  Monitors operational results and initiates proactive measures to meet sales goals according to financial plans.  Responsible for superior execution of brand standards, both tangible and intangible. Responsible for enforcement of all standard operating procedures, policies and procedures.

Serves as a subject matter expert and direct advisor to senior leaders in the organization for the overall retail program.  Plans, organizes work, and manages internal procedures and resources to ensure maximum productivity and economies.  Pursues action to ensure follow through on maximizing productivity and economies. Oversees preparation and approves internal office financial plans and related records and reports.  Analyzes programs on a regular basis, and prompts initiation of corrective action to ensure Exchange operations can assist operating programs of MCCS.  Oversees management of Exchange property resources and may provide direction on facility renovations and improvements.  Develops long range plans in conjunction with internal operating directives, and exercises internal personnel management authorities as delegated by the Retail Operations Manager.

Counsels and trains employees, schedules and directs work, appraises work performance. Approves or disapproves leave, and personnel actions.  Must be alert to substance abuse and take appropriate action.  Effectively supports the Marine Corps Equal Employment Opportunity and Sexual Harassment policies, and ensures compliance with fire, safety, and other environmental issues and programs.  Oversees maintenance and enforcement of the security of resources and develops procedures to minimize the potential for fraud, waste and abuse.

Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy.  Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems.  Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services.  Takes action to solve problems quickly. 

Develops and ensures implementation of an activity safety program in accordance with Base Safety directives.  Ensures conduct of safety meetings.  Advises employees of available safety regulations, instructions, materials and equipment.  Promptly reports workplace accidents to the Human Resources Office.  Ensures safety training is provided to employees. Complies with OSHA standards and takes action to correct unsafe or unhealthy working conditions.  Ensures employees understand safety infractions that can result in disciplinary actions, and follows through with appropriate action.  Ensures minimal loss of duty by complying with ¿Return To Work¿ program initiatives, and following up on employee well being.

This is a white-collar position where occasional lifting up to 20 lbs may be required.

EVALUATIONS:

Qualifications

Five years of experience managing and supervising a large retail sales program with a full variety of merchandise lines.  Thorough knowledge of business practices, economic principles, and ability to analyze trends, developments and make business improvements in operating programs.  Knowledge of financial management to include an understanding of indicators within profit and loss statements and balance sheets and preparing budgets.  Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.  Must possess extraordinary people management skills and experience with the management of large numbers of personnel. Experience in delegating tasks as needed and follow-up to completion.  Knowledge of monitoring operational results and initiating proactive measures to meet sales goals.  Extensive experience in customer relationship management.
