Duties

Help
  • Performs property disposal functions involving receipt, inspection, temporary storage, reissue, sale, transfer, recycling, and final disposition of surplus/excess Government property.
  • Maintains listings of returned assets and determines if spare or replacement equipment parts are in stock and should be included within disposals.
  • Prepares reports identifying unserviceable property and recommends appropriate disposal methods in accordance with applicable regulations and environmental requirements.
  • Maintains automated inventory disposal records and prepares statistical and financial reports documenting surplus property transactions and disposition activities.
  • Identifies Government property through nomenclature, part numbers, serial numbers, and/or manufacturer data plates to ensure accurate accountability.
  • Identifies hazardous materials and hazardous waste, ensuring proper segregation, labeling, storage, documentation, and timely disposal in accordance with environmental and safety regulations.

  • Physical Demands: Requires some physical exertion, such as standing, walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stretching, reaching, lifting moderately heavy items and average agility and dexterity.
  • Work Environment: Work is frequently performed in an office setting, shop, and warehouse. May be exposed to dirt, dust, and the possibility of injury from falling or dropped stock and exposure to cuts, bruises, and lacerations may exist.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Property Disposal Technician, PG-1107-7, you must meet the following requirements:

Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience that is equivalent to at least the PG-6 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector, which includes:

(1) Maintaining records of excess/returned property and recommending appropriate methods of disposal.
(2) Compiling reports such as financial inventory.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement (08/10/2026) to be considered.

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.

Background Investigation for a Suitability:
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a background investigation for Suitability. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully complete a background check for Suitability. This review could include fingerprints and credit checks, as well as a full field FBI background investigation and tax and bar checks for attorney applicants. The background investigation covers a period of seven to ten years depending on the nature of the position; this process may take 6 weeks or longer. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer, if the candidate is unable to pass the background investigation.
