Duties

Help

If you are selected, you will conduct investigative analysis and provide support on legal matters handled by the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia. You may perform assignments independently or as part of a team.

Typical work assignments will include:

  • Supporting the supervision and management of the Early Case Assessment Section (ECAS) by helping implement plans, priorities, and goals established by the supervisor.
  • Organizing and coordinating assignments for the paralegal team and communicating work procedures, objectives, deadlines, and expectations.
  • Conducting specialized legal research for Assistant United States Attorneys involving legislative history, judicial precedents, case law, legal decisions, and law review materials related to intake and case-papering matters.
  • Reviewing and evaluating new and complex cases by analyzing case facts, investigative reports, evidence, and other relevant information to support case-processing decisions.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level in which you are applying:

To qualify at the GS-12 level, you must possess:

Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing (2) of the (3) duties listed below:

  • Providing legal support and technical work with in-depth specialized knowledge of legal research methods and analysis, laws, legal reference material, and litigation.
  • Preparing motions, responses to defense pleadings, writs, trial subpoenas, and other technical documents in a timely manner.
  • Providing case management and organizing cases for court presentation by preparing and/or requesting evidence and/or exhibits.

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level.
  • You must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. No award SF-50 will be accepted; recommended SF-50s include promotions and step increases (within grade increases).
