The Department of Justice's National Fraud Enforcement Division ("Fraud Division") investigates and prosecutes those who commit fraud against the American people. We fulfill our mission by using advanced data-driven investigative techniques; coordinating with agencies responsible for administering taxpayer-funded programs; partnering with federal, tribal, state, territorial, and local law enforcement on fraud-fighting efforts; developing systems and processes that ensure efficient identification and investigation of fraud; and equipping prosecutors and law enforcement with state-of-the-art tools and resources needed to bring criminal actors to justice. The Fraud Division works every day to protect the financial integrity of the United States of America, ensure the vibrancy of the American economy, and seek justice for victims of fraud.
Job Description
Legal interns will work directly with attorneys on cutting edge legal issues relating to a wide range of fraud enforcement priorities. Typical intern projects have involved researching novel legal issues, drafting litigation documents for active cases, analyzing policy proposals, and helping to draft the Fraud Division's publications. The Fraud Division's work is national in scope and often involves some of the most significant and challenging fraud-related investigations. We are looking for proactive and engaged interns to participate in internships either over the summer or during the fall or spring academic semesters.
You will be required to complete a pre-employment security investigation and background check which includes a drug screening.
You may be required to complete a one-year probationary period. See “Additional Information” section for further details.
Selective Service registration is required for males born on, or after, December 31st 1959. Those not registered should have an approved exemption on file.

Qualifications
Requirements or preferences for the internship program are as follows:
Internships are open to first (second semester only), second, and third-year law students.
Internships typically last between ten and twelve weeks. The Fraud Division generally requires a minimum commitment of eight weeks for any internship.
Summer legal internships are full time. The Fraud Division also encourages applications for full-time positions during the academic semesters, though most semester-based legal internships are part-time and require a minimum commitment of 15 hours per week.
Because of the sensitive nature of the work, internship opportunities are contingent upon successful completion of a suitability review and a favorable determination based on information provided in their security forms, a credit report, and fingerprint check.
