Duties

Help
  • Operate trucks to transport a variety of cargo such as equipment, machines, manufactured tubes, cannon, etc. or to tow equipment.
  • Receive, identify, examine and determine destination and acceptability of items from a variety of supply and procurement sources including contractors, commercial vendors, and other federal installations.
  • Issue items from stock, verify signature match with authorized signature cards, maintain Inventory records utilizing automated systems to fill orders, verify inventory levels, place stock and develop the necessary computerized documentation
  • Set up, adjust and operate one or a bank of high-speed band saws, power hack saw and circular saw to cut to size material such as billets, bars, tubing, plates and other metal stock.
  • Plan loading and unloading procedures for incoming items.

  • A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) equivalent to a New York State Class A is required. Must be able to obtain Class P and S endorsements.
  • This position requires the employee to routinely travel away from the normal duty station.
  • The employee may be required to work overtime; The employee may be required to work overtime on an emergency basis.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Motor Vehicle Operator (Materials Handler) ~ without more than normal supervision.
To qualify, your resume must reflect experience which shows your ability to do the work of a Motor Vehicle Operator (Materials Handler) without more than normal supervision which includes:(1) Operating vehicles, trucks and/or support units which have a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of over 32,000 pounds; (2) Operating material handling equipment to load, unload, and transport a variety of cargo; and (3) Coordinating incoming and outgoing shipments and placement of materials. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Exert moderate to heavy physical effort in climbing on tractors to hook up service lines, and climbing on trailers to load and tie down cargo. Occasionally heavy lifting is required such as handling cans and drums or petroleum products weighing up to 44 pounds. Frequently required to bend, reach, and work in awkward positions. Work on top of equipment at heights up to 18 feet above ground. Pushes, pulls, and depresses the various hand and foot controls, requiring continuous reaching, bending, and moving of hands, arms feet, and legs. Concurrently, bends and twists to observe the load and its clearance over and around other objects. Works in a standing position and must remain balanced during starting and stopping motions of the crane.
  • Working Conditions: The work is performed either inside or outside but generally done inside in areas that are dirty, oily, and dusty as in the manufacturing shop areas. Operate vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on interstate highway and exposed to the danger of serious accidents. May drive in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems.
