Duties

Help
  • Serves as a Security Specialist responsible for performing a full range of tasks relating to the planning, development, management and direction of all aspects of the organization security program (Information, Personnel, Physical and Industrial).
  • Develops guidance and provides assistance regarding physical security. Monitors planned physical modifications, direct changes in physical layouts as necessary in order to give final approval for all Secret Open Storage Areas.
  • Administers policies and procedures governing the personnel security program.
  • Processes security clearance investigations request in accordance with DoD Directives and Regulations of the military branches concerning the personnel security program.
  • Develops procedures regarding classification procedures to include marking, downgrading and declassifying, handling, storing, and transmitting of classified material; resolves questions and problems concerning the same.
  • Analyses security needs and prepares educational materials to provide the most current information on all areas of security.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and selected Special Access Program (SAPs) based on a Tier 5 (or equivalent) investigation. See Additional Information.
  • This is a testing designated position. Personnel are required to sign DA Form 5019-R (Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as critical under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program).
  • May require TDY travel over more than 30 days to CON US and OCONUS locations up to 30% of the time. This may require travel on military aircraft, ships and vehicles.
  • This position is deployable and may require extended TDY to OCONUS locations. This position requires a pre-employment physical and thereafter prior to OCONUS travel over 30 days.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical and thereafter prior to OCON US travel over 30 days. Following initial adjudication of access, individual must be able to maintain qualifications for required access to perform temporary duty.
  • Employee must reside within the local area {SO miles) and able to report to work within an hour notice.
  • Must be willing to undergo and successfully complete counter­intelligence scope polygraph with No Deception Indicated {NDI).
  • SECURITY PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT {SPeD) CERTIFICATION. This position has been identified for the Security Professional Education Development {SPeD) Certification Program. (See Additional Information below).

Army DCIPS positions apply Veteran's Preference to preference eligible candidates as defined by Section 2108 of Title 5 U.S.C., in accordance with the procedures provided in DoD Instruction 1400.25, Volume 2005, DCIPS Employment and Placement.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as:
  1. Experience serving as a Security Specialist responsible for performing tasks related to the planning, development, management and direction of all aspects of the organization security program to include Information, Personnel, Physical). AND
  2. Experience in the administration of personnel security programs policies and procedures to include processing security clearance investigations requests and determination. AND
  3. Experience monitoring and coordinating the Information Security Program to include marking, downgrading and declassifying, handling, storing, and/or transmitting of classified material.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GG/GS -11).

Specialized experience is progressively responsible intelligence-related security work directly related to the position being filled. Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector or in another government agency as long as it was at a level at least equivalent to the next lower band in the series.
