Ensuring compliance with law enforcement policies designed to ensure the preservation of the public peace, the protection of life and property, and the prevention of crime.
Reviews of all law enforcement and security directives and manuals to ensure the information contained there is accurate and up to date.
Conducts assessments of policy compliance to identify program weaknesses and areas requiring improvements and recommends changes to management.
Advises the local Chief of Police on policy and compliance issues related to law enforcement and security programs
Provides guidance on interpretation and implementation of new and revised policies, regulations and procedures pertaining to law enforcement.
Analyzes and evaluates the effectiveness of law enforcement activities compliant to applicable agency law enforcement operating procedures and guidelines.
Assures compliance of police operations with appropriate requirements and develops strategies for improving police functions
Participates in work groups, committees and task forces in the research, collection and reporting of compliance data.
Analyzes data to detect unsatisfactory trends or weaknesses in the law enforcement and security program.
Develops trend reports as they relate to data analyzed and develops recommendations for implementation
Plans, designs and implements an overall risk management process for the organization, including analysis of the financial impact when risks occur.
Adapts existing analytical methods and techniques to specific issues and develops new approaches to resolve complex productivity problems and issues.
Providing recommendations in the development, and periodic updating of local law enforcement and security policy.
Serves as the local facility lead for the development of law enforcement and security policy.
Participates in short- and long-range strategic planning designed to incorporate improvements and lessons learned into program operations
Develops and revised implementing procedures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of police operations.
Serves as the local liaison with other agencies conducting audits of law enforcement and security programs.
Manages all audit findings by monitoring corrective actions, reviewing recommendations for corrective actions, and ensuring deadlines are met.
Audits work practices, providing guidance and recommendations, and presents findings and corrective actions.
Briefs management on the results of audits or reviews, highlighting any unsatisfactory trends or conditions.
Establishes study methods and techniques to be used in complex studies and audits of police operations.
Manages the local Police department's accreditation process and maintains accreditation files.
Revises department policy and procedures manuals and catalogs to ensure standard operating procedures are reliable and up-to-date.
Develops, writes, revises, and manages the Police Service catalog of policies and forms to meet accreditation standards.
Monitors special revenues budget, contracts and fees associated with accreditation.
Employs advanced qualitative and quantitative techniques to improve the efficiency of internal administrative operations, organizations, or management.
Responds to highly dangerous and active crimes in progress and makes independent decisions to take/direct/coordinate immediate steps to preserve life and property.

Driver's License Requirement: Applicants must possess a valid, unrestricted State driver's license, have a safe driving record, and demonstrate that he or she is medically qualified to operate the appropriate motor vehicle safely. Firearm Requirement: VA Police Officers are required to carry agency-approved firearms while on duty on VA property. To begin, click Apply Online to create a USA JOBS account or log in to your existing account. Follow the prompts to select your USA JOBS resume and/or other supporting documents.
Answer the questions presented in the application and attach all necessary supporting documentation.
Click the Submit Application button prior to 11:59 PM (ET) on the announcement closing date, 07/30/2026.
If you are required to complete any USA Hire Assessments, you will be notified after submitting your application. The notification will be provided in your application submission screen and via email. The notification will include your unique assessment access link to the USA Hire system and the completion deadline. Additionally, in USAJOBS you can click "Track this application" to return to your assessment completion notice.

Review all instructions prior to beginning your assessments. You will have the opportunity to request a testing accommodation before beginning the assessments should you have a disability covered under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended.
Set aside at least 3 hours to take the USA Hire Assessments; however, most applicants complete the assessments in less time. If you need to stop the assessments and continue later, you can re-use your unique assessment link. NOTE: Your responses to the USA Hire Assessments will be reused for one year (in most cases) from the date you complete an assessment. If future applications you submit require completion of the same assessments, your responses will be automatically reused.
To update your application, including supporting documentation: During the announcement open period, return to your USAJOBS account, find your application record, and click Edit my application. This option will no longer be available once the announcement has closed.

Beginning September 27, 2025, Federal agencies will only accept resumes up to two pages in length to comply with the Merit Hiring Plan. Resumes longer than two pages will result in ineligibility for further consideration for the position. USAJOBS will not allow you to upload or build resumes longer than two pages, and you will need to update the resumes in your profile before applying for a job. Resumes should include information relevant to the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies of the position to which you are applying. VA is unable to make assumptions about qualifications if not clearly listed.
Resumes must be legible so they can be reviewed for eligibility, minimum qualifications and other position requirements listed in the job announcement.
Your resume must be 5MB or less. We recommend saving and uploading your resume as a PDF to maintain formatting and number of pages. We also accept GIF, JPG, JPEG, PNG, RTF, TXT, PDF, ODT or Word (DOC or DOCX). We do not accept PDF portfolio files. We recommend using a sans-serif font size like Lato, if available. Other widely available options are Calibri, Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, Open San Source Sans Pro, Roboto or Noro Sans. Make your page margins 0.5 inches. Consider using 14-point size font for titles and 10-point for the main text in your resume. Next steps
Once your online application is submitted you will receive a confirmation notification by email. After we receive application packages (including all required assessments and documents) and the vacancy announcement closes, we will review applications to ensure qualification and eligibility requirements are met. After the review is complete, a referral certificate(s) is issued, and applicants will be notified of their status by email. Referred applicants will be notified as such and may be contacted directly by the hiring office for an interview. All referred applicants receive a final notification once a selection decision has been made.
