Duties

Help
  • Serves as the Triathlon Coach for the USMA Triathlon collegiate program under general supervision of the Office in Charge assigned to the team. Schedules, plans, and supervises in season practice sessions, contests, tournaments, and team meetings.
  • Represents the USMA collegiate team and interests at coach's conferences to include national and regional committees. Is familiar with, and follows all interpretations, rules, and regulations which govern the conduct of the sport.
  • Researches and recommends appropriate equipment for procurement within budgetary guidelines. Coordinates team travel and is responsible for the discipline, safety, health, and welfare of Cadet athletes during away compeitions.
  • Thoroughly familiar with USMA admissions process and admission requirements necessary prior to an offer of admissions being tendered to a prospective Cadet athlete. Briefs and orients visiting educators and distinguished visitors to the Academy.
  • Working duties will require incumbent to work duty which cannot be administratively controlled and which will require a substantial amount of irregular, continual, and unscheduled overtime duty. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain USA Triathlon (USAT) Level II Coach certification within 6 months of appointment to position.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain SafeSport Training certification within 6 months of appointment to position. i
  • Ability to obtain and maintain American Red Cross Lifeguard certifications: Shallow-water Lifeguarding ai\d '• First Aid/CPR/AED within 6 months of appointment to position.
  • Must possess and maintain a state issued driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license. This position requires travel to locations on and off post.
  • Must be able to work an irregular schedule which may include nights, weekends, holidays, split shifts, and/or overtime in support of academic and cyclic training schedules.
  • Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors during different types of weather conditions ranging from hot and/or humid to cold and/or freezing temperatures.
  • Must be able to continually stand, walk, stoop, reach, pull, push, and bend. Must be able to lift 40Ibs unassisted.
  • Performance of working duties will require incumbent to work duty which cannot be administratively controlled and which will require a substantial amount of irregular, continual, and unscheduled overtime duty.
  • Incumbent is responsible for recognizing, without supervision, circumstances which will require him/her to remain on duty.

Qualifications

Resumes must be two pages (or less). Resumes should clearly demonstrate the applicant's relevant experience, skills, knowledge and abilities as they pertain to this position.

A qualified candidate must possess the following:

One (1) year of work experience as a physical education specialist, athletic director, administrator or coach in the educational, community or industrial sports program.

OR

Completion for a bachelor's degree in physical education may be substituted for work experience.

Education and experience must be reflected on your resume AND transcripts must be uploaded at the time of application to be considered eligible for this position.

AND

Technical knowledge in all aspects of aerobic and anaerobic conditioning, nutrition, flexibility, biomechanics, kinesiology and exercise physiology and the ability to instruct cadet athletics in these areas.

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified":

1. 5 years of collegiate triathlon coaching experience at the national or international level.

2. Possess the following certifications:

  • USA Triathlon (USAT) Levell II Coach Certification
  • SafeSport Training Certification
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Shallow-Water Lifeguarding certification
  • American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certification
This experience/certification must be reflected on your resume and your certifications uploaded at the time of application to be considered a highly preferred candidate for this position.

  • This job is open to US Citizens and Non-Citizens residing within a 75-mile radius of West Point, NY.

  • This job is part of a pay-banded system. Sunday premium pay for regularly scheduled employees and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander.
  • Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
