Conduct periodic surveys of working conditions to assess the nature and magnitude of hazardous exposures.
Plan, coordinate and conduct comprehensive surveys to identify and evaluate potential chemical, biological or physical health hazards within the workplace.
Prepare directives, instructions, specific control procedures, and occupational health bulletins relative to industrial hygiene.
Develop priorities and goals for the industrial hygiene program based on existing or planned level of service, program elements, and/or anticipated problems/projects.
Review accident reports for completeness, accuracy, and authenticity and assures causal analysis and corrective actions are appropriate.
Conduct or coordinates inspections and surveys of District operations to identify actual or potential workplace hazards.
Evaluate program accomplishments periodically to coordinate the program effectively and to determine the need for program improvements or changes.
Write and submit technical reports that are clear, concise and timely.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Valid State Drivers License.
Pre-employment Physical is Required.

Basic Requirement for and Industrial Hygienist:
Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Related Degree: Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1.) coordinating surveys and investigations of worksites to evaluate and formulate controls for occupational health hazards; 2. ) developing controls and techniques to eliminate and reduce safety and environmental hazards in the workplace; 3.) briefing workforce personnel and managers regarding identified workplace hazards; 4.) preparing technical reports which identify health hazards and recommendations for their reduction and elimination; 5.) analyzing and evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards; and/or 6.) inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies. standards and regulations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
