Duties

Help
  • Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen, serving areas, cooking equipment, utensils and dishware.
  • Sets up and operates a mechanical dishwasher, including the continuous conveyor belt feeding dishwasher.
  • Sweep and mop floors. Wash shelves, tables, sinks, equipment, and other work areas. Remove trash from working areas. Disassemble equipment for manual cleaning. Clean and sanitize equipment and work areas.
  • Perform heavy-duty cleaning tasks throughout the food service and related areas, such as cleaning ceilings, exhaust hoods, and spaces under and behind kitchen equipment.
  • Support the patient tray section by reading patient menus, and assembling and portioning the assigned tray items (prepared main course, hot side items, condiments, salads, desserts, etc.) in accordance with patient diet orders.
  • Deliver trays to patients in a proficient and professional manner. Collect trays from the patient's room upon completion of the meal, ensuring to transport the soiled carts to the dish room to empty and sanitize trays and carts.
  • Operate cash register by entering each item's price, using scale for weighed items (salad bar, ice cream, etc.), checking individual meal cards for proper authorization, and making correct change as required.

  • This position may require rotating shifts (i.e. work schedule that requires employees to continuously rotate from one shift to another at predetermined intervals).
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 40 pounds is required.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Food Service Worker without more than normal supervision: The ability to perform common food service and food preparation tasks. Ability to transport/deliver meal trays to patients. Ability to set up cafeteria lines. Ability to enter meal orders in to a computer software program. Work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - The work requires the employee to lift items weighing over 80 pounds with assistance; to bend, stoop, push and pull heavy objects; and involves continuous standing, walking and sitting. Must possess good eyesight and coordination for cash register, money handling duties.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS - Employee performs work in noisy kitchen and dining room areas and is subject to injuries from equipment used. There is exposure to dirt, grease and water in cleaning tasks and exposure to extremes of temperature in bringing supplies from walk-in refrigerators and freezers.
