Summary

You will serve as a Maintenance Worker at the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site. This position works closely with the Facility Manager on many different areas within the Maintenance Division throughout the Park.

You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.

First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following:

  • Performs simple and routine maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, equipment and related utilities.
  • Performs minor painting using brush and roller according to specific instructions on projects where appearances are not critical such as staining picnic tables and trash barrels.
  • Assists higher graded maintenance workers or tradesmen in the performance of their work.
  • Receives, unloads and processes incoming shipments according to established procedures. Reports discrepancies and damage to others responsible for such items. Performs routine maintenance on campground sites and trails using hand tools to re-grade and reset barriers to restore.
  • Operates a light truck to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites while assisting on project work.

As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.

Physical Demands: Works from ladders, scaffolds and platforms and where surfaces to be coated, or the parts of systems worked on are hard to reach that require incumbent to stan stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weight up to 40 pounds

Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside where dirt, spray, and fumes are present. Also required to work in inclement weather and/or wear protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable.
