Duties

Help
  • Serve as a Security Division Chief with responsibilities associated with the oversight and management of lower level supervisors and security guards who are assigned to physically separated posts.
  • Perform full range of supervisory security guard duties covering the enforcement of installation rules, policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Develop plans and procedures along with other supervisors consistent with appropriate security regulations and requirements to provide for an adequate security program.
  • Direct subordinates in the proper direction of traffic and the enforcement of traffic rules and regulations in expediting of essential traffic for prompt evacuation of threatened areas in the event of disaster.
  • Answer questions of a technical matter.
  • Review all orders, new or revised security regulations and requirements and determines necessary actions.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: supervise and direct armed subordinates engaged in law enforcement and security work; project, plan, and implement staffing requirements; develop plans and procedures to provide for an adequate security program; conduct and direct investigations; conduct training and ensure training needs are met; and schedule and approve leave. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09)

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).

Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. Applications will be accepted from non-preference eligibles; however, these applications will not be considered if preference eligible applicants are available. Note: An agency may fill a restricted position with a non-preference eligible by position change (promotion, demotion, or reassignment) from among current permanent Department of the Army employees.
