Duties

Help
  • Provides technician support by performing a wide variety of direct services to the public: registers patrons, charges/discharges materials, processes overdues and reserves, assists with interlibrary loans and reserves, shelves library materials.
  • Prepares displays, programs activities, answers basic reference questions, and assists customers in locating materials.
  • Provides technical services support in a variety of functions: basic/copy cataloging, ordering/receiving/processing and de-acquisitioning of library materials.
  • Assists in maintaining accountability records and in performing shelf inventories. Performs simple maintenance on the library's automated systems.
  • Incumbent may perform physical exertion such as long periods of standing, bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, pushing of loaded trucks; and recurring lifting of heavy items such as boxes of books or journals.

Area of Consideration

  • The Area of Consideration for this vacancy announcement is the local commuting area of Baumholder. The local commuting area is defined as within 100 km (60 miles) of Baumholder.   • This job is part of a pay-banded system. Sunday premium pay for regularly scheduled employees and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander.
  • Foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), incentives and differentials will not be paid, with the exception of post allowance (for a regular full-time position), contingent upon eligibility.

This position is located in Baumholder near Kaiserslautern, Germany.

Kaiserslautern has developed into the largest US military community outside the United States. The city of Kaiserslautern is nestled in the small hills west of the Rhine River Valley, on the edge of the famous German Pfalz forest. Although the climate is changeable much of the time, the area does enjoy many pleasant days with reasonable temperatures. The winter is short and mild with some snowfall. The summer is generally warm and comfortable, with few hot days. Kaiserslautern has over 100,000 residents and an additional 50,000 personnel associated with the American Armed Forces.
