You will serve as a Foreman I Craftsman, leading a work crew in the accomplishment of Upper Columbia Area operations, maintenance and repair to the equipment and facilities assigned to the Yakima Field Office, and performs regular non-supervisory craftsman-level work also.

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following:

  • Leads a team of tradesman to maintain and repair equipment and facilities related to water storage and conveyance systems (canals).
  • Performs multiple trade skills at the journeyman level.
  • Have general knowledge of several other trade skills and proper work methods. Ensure safe work practices are established and followed.
  • Estimate, schedule, plan, and execute work tasks in a timely and professional manner.
  • Communicate instructions and assignments to staff and communicate regularly with the supervisor.

  • You must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.

This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

To be found minimally qualified, your resume must show: I have performed 3 of the following duties on a regular basis: millwright, welding, metal fabricating, general mechanics (inspecting, repairing, lubricating and testing), carpentry, machinist, concrete finishing and repair, plumbing or pipe fitting, painting (industrial), masonry, and equipment operation (such as graders, backhoes, motor vehicles, forklifts).

Physical Demands: In the performance of duties the incumbent may be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds, and often puts forth similar effort in pushing, pulling, turning and positioning parts, assemblies, equipment and tools. May be required to lift and move heavier items with the assistance of others and with lifting devices such as jacks, hoists and cranes. Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling or sitting for extended periods of time may be required. May perform work requiring the use of a Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBS), air filtration mask or other respiratory devices.

Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and in the field during mixed weather seasons and subject to variable terrain requiring increased physical demand to perform duties. May work in close restricted quarters. Works on or around moving equipment. May work in hazardous areas with hazardous materials. The incumbent will be required to occasionally operate equipment and/or vehicles in the performance of his/her duties and is completely responsible for their safe poeration. Operates such equipment in compliance with applicable Bureau, Federal, State, County, and Municipal laws and regulations.
