Duties

  • As a Student Trainee (Information Technology), the incumbent will work under closer supervision performing assignments and completing training.
  • Assignments become more responsible as incumbent increases knowledge and skills through work experience and academic training.
  • At the full-performance level, you will be expected to:
  • * Assist information technology (IT) personnel in resolving hardware and/or software issues.
  • * Perform routine procedures for the operation of computer systems.
  • * Assist with system installation operation, communication, and maintenance.
  • * Maintain information assurance and information technology applications.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Student Program Participant Agreement is required for students.
  • The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET SCI clearance as a condition of employment and must complete a counterintelligence scope polygraph exam.
  • This is a Drug Testing Designated Position. This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program.
  • The incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R (Condition of Employment for Certain Positions Identified as Critical Under the Drug Abuse Testing Program).
  • The incumbent must pass urinalysis testing, as required, prior to appointment, reassignment, or transfer and periodically thereafter
  • The incumbent must meet NSA personnel security requirements outlined in NSA/CSS Policy 5-1.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military and/or commercial aircraft.
  • The incumbent may be recalled to duty, may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays, and may be required to work overtime.
  • The incumbent must be current enrolled and seeking a degree or certificate in a qualifying educational institution on a half- to full-time basis.

This position is in the TECHNICIAN/ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT Work Category at the ENTRY/DEVELOPMENTAL Work Level within the CES Occupational Structure.This position is in the CATEGORY Work Category at the LEVEL Work Level within the CES Occupational Structure.

Experience: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe one year general experience that demonstrates the possession of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Such experience is typically in or directly related to the work of the position to be filled. General experience would be demonstrated by progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.

Education: To qualify based on education, you must have completed 2 full academic years of post-high school study. (Two years of full-time academic study is defined as 60 semester hours, 90 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university.)

  • If you are a current federal career/career-conditional employee, you will be placed on an excepted appointment.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

  • This position requires a 3 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.   • Incumbent (or Selectee) is required to satisfactorily complete the appropriate training and obtain the required certification/recertification for this position as outlined in DoDM 8140.03 Cyberspace Workforce Qualification and Management Program dated 15 February 2023.
  • Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.

  • May be converted to a permanent appointment in the excepted service, to include the conversion out grade at the GG-05 or GG-07 and corresponding full performance grade at the GG-12.
  • If converted to a permanent position, selectee may be required to meet additional conditions of employment.
