Duties

Help
  • Install, repair, and maintain large, complex, HVAC systems having a great variety of complicated components, parts, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Incumbent is responsible for maintaining installed equipment in accordance with the maintenance schedules for each piece of machinery.
  • Operate a motor vehicle (less than 1 l/2 tons) to transport self, co-workers, and supplies; and preventative maintenance.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to obtain and sustain an Approved Environment Protection Agency Refrigerant Handling Certificate.
  • In accordance with DoDM 8140.03 and supplemental Army guidance, the employee must obtain and maintain the following requirements for each Cyber work role (except Data, AI, and/or Software Engineering) at the assigned proficiency level.
  • Must obtain and maintain Foundational qualification requirements within 9 months.
  • Must obtain and maintain Resident qualification requirements within 12 months.
  • Must obtain and maintain 20 hours of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) per work role code (which can overlap).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic (MVO) ~ without more than normal supervision. This includes: 1) Test, modify, and/or repair air conditioning units to specification requirements; 2) Repair and/or reassemble units such as compressors and pumps to operational capacity; 3) Repair a variety of small and domestic air conditioning (A/C) units or systems, or auxiliary equipment such as motors, blowers, valves, pumps, and thermostatic controls; 4) Troubleshoot or perform tests to identify issues with A/C units or auxiliary equipment; 5) Make repairs with the use of tools, testing equipment/instruments, welding equipment to ensure equipment is fully operational. without more than normal supervision. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Lifting will be required to lift up to 50 pounds and up to 100 with assistance. Work will be performed in places of limited accessibility and often in awkward positions. Standing, stooping, kneeling, bending and working over equipment are routine.
  • Work is performed inside and occasionally outside, frequently in cramped and awkward positions; shop area is usually adequately heated and ventilated, but often floors are of concrete; work is frequently dirty and greasy; variable temperatures occur when working in cold-storage rooms; subject to possible injuries, such as cuts, bruises, burns, and electrical shock, possible respiratory disorders due to inhalation of refrigerant gases.
