Duties

Help
  • Work independently in a wide range of warehousing activities, including receiving, storing, selecting, and shipping general or specialized bulk and bin materials and equipment.
  • Assists in moving materials from schools or other vendor sources.
  • Prepares shipping and inventory documents with required data for manual or automated inventory systems.
  • Loads and unloads shipments from trucks and other material conveyances using fork lifts, manual and mechanized pallet jacks, side loaders, and automated guided vehicles.
  • Tag items with a barcode.
  • Assists in the routine issue of any warehouse stock material to any department of the school system.
  • Assists in the delivery of mail and supply material throughout the school system.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Materials Handler without more than normal supervision. Applicants must meet the screen out elements to be considered further. The work of the position normally includes work in a warehouse environment to receive, store, select, and/or ship items. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

  • Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
  • Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order)
  • Physical Effort: Often require to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and to bend, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. Average weight handled is 20 to 40 pounds. Hand truck and carts are used in moving materials and a forklift is used to transport heavy materials.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed both within and outside of the supply warehouse that may be hot, damp, cold, or drafty. Nature of supply items will embrace a variety of materials peculiar to a school institution.
