Help

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Sets up sterile field with all required items for each procedure such as air-powered equipment, fiber optic equipment, laparoscopic equipment, microscopes, lasers, arthroscopy equipment, urologic equipment, recording devices, and other operating room supplies and equipment.
  • Plans and discusses each procedure with surgical professionals and assures that all supplies and equipment ara available prior to the surgical procedure.
  • Prepares, organizes, and maintains highly complex sterile surgical setups.
  • Observes and responds promptly to each stage of the surgical procedure and anticipates the needs of the surgeon by maintaining a high level of concentration for extended periods of time.
  • Utilizes universal precautions and follows all infection control policies and procedures when handling specimens, supplies, and equipment.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday; 6:45am-3:14pm; Subject to change based on the needs of the facility.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/20/2026.

Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR): Applicants who meet the Individual Occupational Requirements described below are fully qualified for the specified entry grade and must also meet the specialized experience and/or education requirements.

Specialized Experience: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.

Education and Training:
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. (Transcript Required).

In addition to meeting the above Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) AND Time-In-Grade, applicants must also meet the experience and/or directly related education relevant to this position.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below:

  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Knowledge of a variety of instrumentation and service lines including orthopedic, general urology, ophthalmology, vascular, thoracic and plastic, surgical ethics and conscious; Confirms all specimens to be sent to pathology with surgeon and verifies accuracy with team, gowns and gloves members of surgical team; Establishes and maintains sterile field during surgical procedures; Assists circulating nurse and surgical team in maintaining sterile environment; Assists circulating nurse in gathering surgical supplies and equipment; and Assists in keeping physician preference cards accurate/updated.
