***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION***

The primary purpose of the position is to provide comprehensive telephone and telecommunications support to the VAMC and all associated sites. Duties will include, but may not be limited to the following:

  • Operates the centralized telephone system to receive and connect incoming and outgoing calls utilizing complex computerized equipment and telecommunications software.
  • Gives directions to patients for all locations.
  • Maintains a trouble log and notify the supervisor or telephone technician of troubles.
  • Troubleshooting of telephone and computer related problems.
  • Responds to alarms for and acts as a key member of the team for various emergency/disaster situations daily.
  • Dispatches information according to alarm requirements for facility wide alarm systems at three campuses.
  • Performs testing of all communication and alarm systems on a daily basis.
  • Operates the internal and external paging system to facilitate paging requests of authorized personnel.
  • Operates two-way radio.
  • Utilizes the features of the telephone consoles, headsets, telephones and other related equipment.
  • Assists in training other personnel in the proper use, operation, and care of computer and telecommunications equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Full-Time, 8:00am - 4:30pm, 4:00pm - 12:00am, 12:00am - 8:00am. This position provides 24/7 coverage, and tour will be rotated to include weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: Requires one full year of General experience, defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. EDUCATION (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successfully complete 2 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. OR

COMBINATION (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of one year) and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.

A Quality Ranking Factor* has also been requested by the facility to help determine which of the basically qualified applicants are likely to be better qualified for a position.

The quality ranking factor for this position is: Experience working in a call center type setting with knowledge of medical terminology.

*Quality Ranking Factors are skills, knowledge, abilities, or other worker characteristics which could be expected to result in superior performance on the job. Quality ranking factors will not be used for screening but may be used as ranking criteria. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The work is sedentary. The employee sits comfortably to do the work. There is some moving around to adjust equipment; carrying light items such as papers, books.
