This position is located at the Cheyenne River Indian Health Service in Eagle Butte, SD. The purpose of the position is to work alone or as a member of a crew to perform the full range of groundskeeping duties around the Cheyenne River Health Center and Good River Community quarters units, following general instructions on the work to be completed.

Help

  • Operate large, industrial, working-type power mowers (e.g fixed or floating cutting deck(s) with limited adjustments). Employee manually adjusts cutting height, prepare gasoline/oil mixtures for powered equipment and clean and lubricate mowers.
  • Removes snow from sidewalks and parking lots, spreads sand and/or salt on sidewalks and parking lots during icy conditions around Cheyenne River Health Center and/or Good River Community quarters units.
  • Perform limited roads maintenance work. Use concrete, gravel, and/or asphalt to fill and level holes in damaged roads and/or sidewalks.
  • Perform grounds maintenance on grades or slopes; dig ditches and trenches with picks and shovels where dirt is hard and compact. Cut down trees, bushes and shrubbery using axes, power chainsaws, or other cutting devices.
  • Responsible for the watering, pruning, and trimming of the grass, trees, shrubs, and flowers of the Cheyenne River Health Center and/or Good River Community vacant and transient quarters units.

Travel within the service unit area by government owned vehicle (GOV) is required. The employee is required to possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.

Background Investigation Requirement:
This position requires the successful completion of a federal background investigation as a condition of employment.

A background investigation is a standard process used by the Federal Government to verify an individual's identity, employment history, education, and other relevant information to determine suitability for Federal service.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. WORKING CONDITIONS
Position requires continuous standing, walking, pushing, pulling, crawling, stooping, kneeling, repeated bending, and climbing. Possibility exists of serious injuries from power cleaning equipment or from falls from ladders and scaffolds. Frequently carry, lift, push or pull tools, materials and supplies up to 100 pounds. Move heavier objects with assistance. Work is performed outdoors, exposed to extreme environmental conditions and the possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts, and scrapes. Employee may be exposed to communicable disease and foul odors when handling waste and when cleaning areas of the facility. Employee must exercise care to avoid serious injuries when performing duties. Must follow safety procedures and use standard safety equipment such as gloves, ear protection, safety glasses, steel or safety toes boots or shoes to avoid possible hazards.
