This position is located within the TSA, LE, Security & Operations Management office. The Security Division is responsible for providing the physical security of TSA facilities, determining employee suitability/adjudicating security clearances, safeguarding SSI, implementing security policy, and providing security training to the workforce. It also provides for a safe and secure work environment for employees and visitors at TSA facilities through Field Support and Technical Security Units.

This Transportation Security Specialist - Law Enforcement position is located Law Enforcement, Security and Operations Management office., Transportation Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provide safe and secure vehicle transportation to the assigned person, including receiving and/or preparing appropriate documentation for the transportation of and/or pick-up of the senior leadership, completing route planning/reconnaissance, and mobile security.
  • Responsible for the physical protection of facilities, personnel, classified information, and/or other sensitive materials, resources, or processes.
  • Performs the full range of investigative functions on assigned cases, from planning through fact-finding to reporting the results of investigations.
  • Ensures the proper handling and disposition of sensitive information in accordance with DHS guidelines

  1. You must possess U.S. Citizenship or be a U.S. National.
  2. You must have reached the minimum age (18) at the time of application.
  3. You must complete a favorable Background Investigation (BI).
  4. Selective Service registration is required.
  5. You must possess and maintain a Valid Driver's License.
  6. You must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
  7. You must have successfully graduated from a Federal or State accredited Law Enforcement Academy and have previous Law Enforcement experience.
  8. You will be required to carry a firearm and conduct law enforcement activities. In addition, you are required to maintain firearm proficiency. Failure to maintain firearm proficiency may result in either assignment to another position, demotion or separation by appropriate procedures. Incumbents must be able to satisfy the requirements of the Lautenberg Amendment.
  9. You will be required to complete emergency vehicle operator course.
  10. The position may require the employee to be subject to 24-hour on call duty in the event of an emergency as well as irregular working hours, serve as the On-Call Duty Agent for After-Hours incidents, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the position description. The selectee must be able to relocate to emergency sites with little advance notice and function under intense physical and mental stress.

Qualifications

In addition to the minimum qualifications described above, you must meet the following specialized experience to be considered qualified for the position:

To qualify for the SV-I Pay Band (equivalent to GS-13), you must have one year of specialized experience at the SV-H or GS-12 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as:

  • Experience providing transportation and physical security to personnel
  • Experience developing, monitoring or managing physical security programs; and
  • Experience conducting, monitoring, or coordinating administrative or criminal investigations

Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
