Duties

Help

1.Issues, receives and schedules use of equipment, tools and repair/paint stalls for patrons. Uses chit or other parts assignment system for accountability of assigned tools. Determines type of repair job involved and suggests a variety of tools needed to accomplish the repair. Provides instructions to customers on cleaning processes, soiled rag disposal, sweeping and cleanup of repair or pit stall and removal of excess automotive parts. Ensures tools turned-in are clean, assesses breakage or damage if any; charging customer for tools according to prescribed price listing. Operates cash register and accounts for cash using established procedures.

2.Maintains inventory control records of items issued, conducts minor maintenance and repair of tools and equipment. Accounts for condition, inspects tools upon return, bins, stores or replaces item with new. Arranges tools and parts as stock is replenished or added. Develops display pegboards, cleans and grinds tools requiring sharp edges.

3.Maintains a clean and orderly work area at all times. May be required to act as the primary or alternate equipment custodian. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Skill and Knowledge: Ability to perform minor repair and servicing of tools and equipment. Knowledge of tools and parts so as to be able to identify them from name brands and generic descriptions and by using catalogs and other trade publications. Knowledge of inventory, replenishment and new items receipt documentation so as to be able to perform inventories, initiate replenishments on a timely basis, and record receipt of new items. Knowledge of and skill in inventory procedures so as to be able to exercise stock control such as searching likely locations and taking recounts to assist in determining the basis of overages and/or shortages. Knowledge of automated and/or mechanized systems sufficient to scan bar codes and/or to enter and extract automated information. Skill in verifying the quantities and condition of incoming stock and knowledge of procedures for reporting overages, shortages or damages. Skill in selecting and setting up specific locations for items within the framework of the general storage plan. Skill in marking and tagging locations, and in making entries on locator records to show names, quantities, and locations of stock.

Physical Effort: Works on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping, bending and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 10 pounds. May occasionally handle items weighing up to 40 pounds. May lift heavier items with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.

Working Conditions: Work is generally done in areas that are well lighted, heated and ventilated. The attendant may occasionally work in areas that are drafty. The work is sometimes dirty, dusty and greasy. The attendant is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes and bruises.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
Must have experience which demonstrates knowledge of a wide variety of automotive tools and parts; good work shop practices to include setting up and maintaining a neat, well organized and secure storage area; inventory procedures and records maintenance. In addition, must have experience working with patrons providing quality customer service. Must be able to follow written and/or oral instruction, make simple mathematical computations and be able to follow cash handling procedures. Must be able to stand, stoop, bend and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally handle objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
