Summary

Responsible for the inspection, preventive maintenance, and repairs of physical structures, including specialized quarantine greenhouses and screen-houses, diagnostic laboratories, mechanical support, administrative buildings.
Performs full range of carpentry skills and building construction techniques in repairing, constructing, altering and maintaining wood, metal, masonry and concrete components of buildings and structures where quarantine is essential.
Installs, alters, maintains, and repairs electrical facilities and equipment. Plans work, determines method and techniques, and follows sketches, diagrams and blueprints.
Constructs, installs, repairs, and alters gas, oil, water, sewage, steam, air, and drainage piping systems constructed of steel, cast iron, copper, brass, and plastic material.
Cuts, bends, threads pipe and assembles pipe fittings. Makes up various kinds of pressure tight joints, such as threads, flange bolted or flange welded connections.
Inspects boilers and auxiliary equipment for operation and preventive maintenance purposes and inspects and adjusts controls as needed.
Plans the use of subordinate workers equipment, facilities, materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis; establishes deadlines, priorities, and work sequences, and plans work assignments based on general work schedules, methods, and policies
Investigates work related problems such as excessive costs or low productivity and determines causes; implements corrective actions within their authority to resolve work problems; and recommends solutions to staffing problems.
