Are you a visionary technology expert ready to shape the future of the United States Space Force? We are seeking a dynamic and innovative Chief Technology Officer (CTO) / Principal Technology Advisor to spearhead our BMC3I initiatives. This is a unique opportunity to serve as the senior technology strategist and authority at the forefront of national security, developing and integrating cutting-edge technology that ensures our dominance and superiority in a contested space environment. Step into a high-impact, non-supervisory role where you will eliminate stove-piped systems, drive enterprise-wide innovation, and deliver cornerstone capabilities for the US Space Command. Serves as the senior technology strategist and non-supervisory authority for BMC3I initiatives, providing high-level technical direction, architectural vision, and strategic leadership in emerging technologies like AI/ML, cloud, and DevSecOps. Responsible for driving enterprise integration, guiding innovation, serving as the primary technical liaison to senior government and industry leaders, and fostering a collaborative culture across a workforce of technology professionals to ensure United States Space Force dominance in a contested space environment.

Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate is a visionary, mission-focused Senior Technologist and Chief Architect with a proven track record of steering technical direction and enterprise-wide IT modernization within the Department of War (DoW) or the aerospace sector. Armed with an advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, this strategist possesses deep, hands-on expertise in multi-cloud architecture (AWS and Azure), Agile methodologies, and DevSecOps pipelines. They are highly skilled at translating complex technical visions into secure, actionable results, specifically leveraging emerging capabilities in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Advanced Data Analytics to drive decision advantage. A master of cross-functional influence, they consistently guide diverse teams and align senior stakeholders without relying on formal supervisory authority. Crucially, they possess a strong working knowledge of DoW acquisition processes, enabling them to seamlessly define technical requirements and oversee contracted execution to ensure mission success.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of the policies, practices, regulations, and laws concerning the acquisition management process and initiatives.
  2. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
  3. Knowledge of the missions, roles, functions, organizational structures, and operation of the DOD, Air Force, and organizations that govern, interface with, and/or influence the systems acquisition process.
  4. Skill to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff in critical aspects of development and production, support of systems, subsystems, or equipment and to coordinate various aspects of systems acquisition such as engineering, contracting, financial management, configuration, test, and manufacturing.
  5. Ability to supervise, mentor, motivate, appraise, and work with subordinate supervisors and non-supervisory employees.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, clearly, concisely, with technical accuracy and to use computers and a variety of software programs and databases, gather and analyze a variety of program information, make sound judgments concerning program progress, and effectively communicate recommendations orally and in writing to higher organizational management and contractors.

  • This is a Centrally Managed position, relocation is authorized.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Top-Secret security clearance.
  • Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
  • May be required travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
  • Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and OPM prescribed “Unscheduled Telework”.
  • Employee must within 30-days of assuming this position and by 31 October annually thereafter, file an OGE-450, “Confidential Financial Disclosure Report.
  • This position has been designated for drug testing. Incumbent is subject to random urinalysis testing as a condition of employment.
  • This position is designated as a CRITICAL APDP position.
  • Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 20 days per year.
