Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional

  • Manages all Aspects of the Program for the facility, assuming local compliance with national policy and direction.
  • Coordinates with the multidisciplinary team to develop local goals. Measures progress toward the goals and reports to the appropriate officials at a local, VISN and national level.
  • Provides direct patient care by developing and implementing comprehensive nutrition therapy, practicing within their scope clinical privileges.
  • Serves as the Professional and technical advisor for their programs.
  • Promotes and maintains effective working relationships with all facility and significant parties at the national, state local level.
  • Directs or participates in the design of studies, collects data, conducts statistical analysis, interprets findings, and translates results into written and oral communication.
  • Sets priorities, delegates tasks, meets multiple deadlines, analyzes organizational problems, and develops and implements effective solutions,
  • Serves as a consultant and technical advisor within NFS and with other Facility health care staff in evaluating health care delivery to veterans and employees.
  • Determines the continuing education needs of programs and staff and appropriate resources to meet those needs.
  • Oversees all aspects of the program, policy, and procedures development.
  • Oversees development and maintenance of training and reference materials.
  • Establishes and manages program goals and objectives.
  • Plans and administers programs, coordinates associated activities and resources, evaluates program accomplishments redefines, priorities, problem solves, and modifies objectives.
  • Takes and active role in fiscal management for the program, identifying resource needs that may include staffing, supplies, and contracts ect.
  • Maintains program information through approved Social Media outlets.
  • May perform other duties as assigned which are appropriate for this GS Grade Level.


Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • English Language Proficiency. Dietitian candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with 38 U.S.C. ยง 7403(f).
  • Registration: All applicants must hold the RDN credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) the credentialing agency of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

  • Note: Applicants who hold the RDN credential have met the education requirement (e.g. bachelor's degree or higher) of CDR, as such this occupation is considered professional and scientific with a positive education requirement.
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).

Grade Determinations: All individuals assigned to this occupation must meet all the basic qualification requirements and all the requirements defined in the specific assignment. GS 12 Level which is Above the Full Performance Level.

Experience.
One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:
(a)Knowledge of program administration establishes program goals and objectives, coordinates activities, evaluates accomplishments and solves problems.
(b)Skill in developing quality improvement or research activities.
(c)Skill in developing training and reference materials.
(d)Ability to develop policies and procedures.(e)Ability to provide program-specific coordination to include leadership, technical advice and staff development.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
