Duties

Help
  • Responsible for installation, maintenance, operation, monitoring, and evaluation of all dam safety instrumentation and equipment.
  • Observe, inspect, collect, and record data readings from instrumentation used in assuring the stability of four Tri-Lakes Project Dams.
  • Review requests and plans of proposed construction that might affect the dams and appurtenant structures and recommend approval and/or changes to the proposed work.
  • Collaborate with and assist organizational units of such Project Management, Real Estate, and Engineering Division relative to the design of flood damage reduction projects to prevent operation and maintenance problems.
  • Prepare and interpret plans and specifications for small construction and service contracts in support of a major flood control project.
  • Utilize a computerized maintenance management system to provide system control, oversight, repair history, analysis and quality of the data entered.
  • Involved with the operation and maintenance of 4 flood control dams.
  • Participates in annual and periodic dam inspections.
  • Assists in a variety of maintenance, repair and operational duties for the project office.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This is a mandatory drug Testing Designated Position (TDP), in accordance with ER 690-1-1218, USACE Civilian Drug Free Workplace Program, dated 30 June 2021. Pre-employment and random drug testing required.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid State-issued Driver's License.
  • Obtain and maintain USACE boat operator license within 1 year of appointment.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid CPR certificate, First Aid/First Responder (or equivalent) training and certification. within 1 year of appointment.
  • May be required to work nights and/or weekends depending on the needs of the Project.
  • Will be required to work in non-permit and Category II permit required confined spaces and must be able to implement proper entry techniques. Required to know and implement the requirements of the Confined Space Program.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. GS-07 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience collecting instrumentation data; utilizing spreadsheet software to input and analyze instrumentation data; and identify anomalies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

GS-08 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience collecting instrumentation data; utilizing spreadsheet software to input and analyze instrumentation data for trends; and investigate anomalies to recommend remediation. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

GS-09 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience collecting instrumentation data; utilizing spreadsheet software to input and analyze instrumentation data for trends; and conducting inspections of dams and water control structures or construction. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

  • Permanent Change of Station (PCS) allowances may be authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations and an agency determination that a PCS move is in the Government Interest.
  • The following incentives MAY BE authorized: Advanced In-hire, Student Loan Repayment, Recruitment Incentive, Relocation Incentive, and/or Advanced Leave Accrual.
  • Management may select at any of the grade levels announced.
  • Noncompetitive promotion potential to intervening grade of GS-08 and full performance grade of GS-09 when management determines ready.
  • Need to be able to walk up and down uneven terrain/slopes/rip rap on the dam.
