Duties

Help
  • Provide maintenance for locks, keys, and locking devices within a medical treatment facility (MTF) or surrounding clinics.
  • Provide entry of malfunctioning locks within an MTF.
  • Assist with implementing the key control plan for an organization.
  • Modify and rework locking devices to accomplish special security objectives.
  • Examine locking devices to determine if they have been tampered with to include disassembling the locks; closely inspecting locks for tool marks, abrasions, and misaligned parts.
  • Repair, replace or fabricate parts covered by manufacturer parts catalogs and specifications for locking devices.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Incumbent may be required to travel outside the commuting area to complete developmental training.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license to operate a government vehicle.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • Appointment may require a suitability/fitness determination.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Locksmith ~ without more than normal supervision. I am skilled in performing the most difficult and complex locksmith installations or repairs for an organization; I am skilled in utilizing an automated system to determine hardware or repair needed on locking devices; I am skilled in providing entry when locks have malfunctioned; I am skilled in cleaning and/or installing various locking devices; I skilled in reworking locking devices based on accurate specifications of the device; I am skilled in independently fabricating parts for locking devices; I skilled in determining the most suitable locking device based on organizational need; I am skilled in developing drawings or diagrams which include dimensions, special part, or surface needed to manufacture or install locking devices. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Work at this level seldom requires lifting or carrying of items weighing in excess of 7 kilograms (15 pounds). The locksmith workers frequently stand, stoop, bend, kneel and work in awkward positions when installing and opening locks and emergency exit hardware on-site. Locksmiths may be required to lift security containers weighing up to 23 kilograms (50 pounds) and heavier weights with assistance.
  • Working Conditions: Work at this level is normally done inside in areas that are well lighted, heated and ventilated. Occasionally work is done outside in bad weather or in areas that are drafty and poorly lighted. The locksmith workers are exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes and bruises. Locksmiths are exposed to the possibility of burns while using acetylene torches, brazing torches, and soldering irons.
