The area of consideration for this position is CAT 1 (Areas 1-2) (NCARNG) Dual Status TECHNICIANS ONLY. Applications will only be accepted from current employees of the North Carolina Army National Guard with permanent (Tenure 1 or 2) or excepted indefinite (Tenure 3) status.

As a POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC (SMALL SHOP CHIEF) (TITLE 32), WG-5378-11, you will plan and lay out work to be accomplished in the shop which is then completed by the individual and lower graded worker(s); possess the knowledge and skills found at the journeyman level as well as those required for planning, accomplishing and maintaining a functional shop maintenance program; independently determine appropriate maintenance procedures such as how and when the work should be accomplished; estimate manpower, equipment and material requirements; devise and maintain all program plans and records, is skilled in surveillance and troubleshooting techniques, and is able to determine maintenance/ repair procedures needed without benefit of technical supervisory guidance; plan, organize and direct shop maintenance programs/procedures under general supervision; determine approach, method and course of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner; provide recommendations and input to the supervisor concerning personnel actions such as performance appraisals, awards, position description changes, disciplinary actions, leave, etc; perform the same type and level of work as performed within the unit; implement safety regulatory requirements; participate in various types of readiness preparations, inspections, evaluations, and
mobilization and command support exercises.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • You may be required to successfully complete a 1- or 2- year probation/trail period to assess performance, conduct, agency needs, public interest, and efficiency. Employment ends unless certified in writing that it advances the agencies interest.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Qualifications

Military Grades: Enlisted (E5-E7)

Minimum Requirements: Experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of mechanical maintenance work; ability to read and use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams and schematics, and skill in the use of equipment and hand tools used in troubleshooting, testing and repairing equipment..

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: (Must have 18 months) Experience or training removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components, and accessories. Experience which provided working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to powered support equipment and systems; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments. Experience which provided working knowledge of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships. Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.
