  • Physical Demands: Work is generally sedentary in nature. Some walking, standing, and light lifting (up to 40 lbs.) may be required.
  • Work Environment: Work is performed in an office setting without any environmental stress. When Teleworking. A teleworking agreement must be completed, and the home workspace must meet the requirements set forth in the agreement.

Qualifications

To qualify for the IT Specialist (OS/Network), PG - 2210 - 14 , you must meet the following requirements:

Basic Requirements:

For PG-12 and above: Experience that demonstrated accomplishment of computer project assignments that required a wide range of knowledge of computer requirements and techniques pertinent to the position to be filled. This knowledge is generally demonstrated by assignments where the applicant analyzed a number of alternative approaches in the process of advising management concerning major aspects of ADP system design, such as what system interrelationships must be considered, or what operating mode, system software, and/or equipment configuration is most appropriate for a given project.

For all 2210 at PG 13 and above positions: individuals must demonstrate they have experience in each of the nine competencies listed below: Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate.

Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the competencies listed below:

Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

Decision Making - Makes sound, well-informed, and objective decisions; perceives the impact and implications of decisions; commits to action, even in uncertain situations, to accomplish organizational goals; causes change.

Information Management - Identifies a need for and knows where or how to gather information; organizes and maintains information or information management systems.

Interpersonal Skills - Shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others; develops and maintains effective relationships with others; may include effectively dealing with individuals who are difficult, hostile, or distressed; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations

Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Teamwork - Encourages and facilitates cooperation, pride, trust, and group identity; fosters commitment and team spirit; works with others to achieve goals.

Technical Competence - Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or on-the-job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues.

AND

In addition to meeting the above Basic Education or IT Experience, the applicant must meet the following:

Specialized Experience: To qualify for the IT Specialist (OS/ Network) PG-2210-14, applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to or higher than the PG-13 grade level in the Federal Service or equivalent Private Sector experience that includes:


1) Utilizing Computer server operating systems such as (Windows and RHEL), storage networks, firewall rule-based, Public Key Infrastructure, and the ability to implement hardware and software changes without adversely affecting overall operations,
2) Maintaining File structures, communications access methods, and data backup methodologies to support the enterprise network
3) Develop systems life cycle management concepts used to plan, develop, implement, operate, and maintain information systems.
4) Review server network connectivity and software designs for potential risks; recommend problem mitigation or countermeasures.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement (07/20/2026) to be considered.

Background Investigation:

For a Suitability:
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a background investigation for Suitability. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully complete a background check for Suitability. This review could include fingerprints and credit checks, as well as a full field FBI background investigation and tax and bar checks for attorney applicants. The background investigation covers a period of seven to ten years depending on the nature of the position; this process may take 6 weeks or longer. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer, if the candidate is unable to pass the background investigation.
